Payne, Harold Leslie

Son of Charles Payne (1866–1940) and Grace Isobel Payne née Funnell (1883–1942) of 92 Shacklegate Road, Teddington Spouse of Lucy Rose Payne née Nipper of 36 Links View Road, Hampton Hill, Middlesex

Born 2nd May 1911 at Twickenham, Middlesex Educated at Teddington Council School, Teddington

Served as Royal Navy Leading Seaman (C/JX 127937) on H.M.S. Mashona until 28th May 1941 when his ship was sunk off the coast of Ireland with the loss of 56 crew, including Harold Leslie Payne, then aged 30 years

Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent

Listed on the Stanley Road School WW2 War Memorial
