Sibley, Cyril

Son of Frank Sibley and Hester Maud Sibley née Wainwright of 21 Mays Road, Teddington

Born 11th September 1915 at Kingston, Surrey

Stoker 1st Class (P/KX 86227), H.M.S. Royal Oak, Royal Navy

The ship, a battleship of 29,150 tons, was sunk by a “U Boat” which had penetrated the unfinished barrier at an entrance to Scapa Flow in the Orkneys on 14th October 1939. The ship was struck by a torpedoe and 835 crew onboard were lost - including Cyril Sibley.
